interest or other charges, its a great scheme. I have application forms in my studio, or you can contact Northern Arts direct -- Contact info and link to their web site at bottom of page. Also some of the Galleries I supply operate the scheme. Art Purchase Plan (APP) has been developed by Northern Arts to assist private individuals to purchase or commission original works of art and craft by living artists by offering an interest free loan of up to £2,000 repayable in monthly instalments over a period of up to one year. There are no interest or handling charges payable either to Northern Arts or the gallery. To apply you must:
ELIGIBLE WORKS Loans are only available to assist with the purchase or commission of original works of art by living artists. The Gallery is required to warrant that, to the best of its knowledge, the work is by a living artists and that it is an original "work of art". For the purposes of this clause, "original" means that the work has been designed, produced, drawn, painted, constructed, manufactured or otherwise created by the named artist or artists. The following will generally be eligible: furniture, glass, paintings, portraits, sculpture, woodwork, ceramics, jewellery, photographic art, stained glass, textiles, metalwork and original prints. LOAN Credit Limit Credit is available to a maximum of £2,000. The buyer can apply for a loan to cover the whole or any part of the price of one or more works or up to 75% of the price of any commissioned work to a maximum personal credit limit of £2,000. A deposit of 25% of the price of any commissioned work which is the subject of a loan shall be paid directly by the buyer. The credit limit of £2,000 relates to any new application being made by the buyer, and any existing debt in respect of loans outstanding. A buyer may apply for loans to buy or commission one or more works on one occasion provided the total outstanding shall at no time exceed £2,000. If the purchase price is more than the available balance, the buyer must pay any difference at the time the purchase takes place. Repayments Loans are repayable by equal monthly instalments, which commence one calendar month after completion of the sale/purchase of the work with payment being by Bankers Order. The maximum period for repayment of the loan is twelve months. The buyer may ask for the loan to be repayable by any number of monthly instalments up to, but not exceeding twelve. Loans of under £100 or with repayments of less than £10 per month will not be considered. SMALL IMMEDIATE LOANS It is possible for loans of £60 to £100 to be offered to buyers who take possession of the artwork at once. This is only permitted where the value of the work does not exceed £200; when the Gallery is satisfied the buyer is "bona fide" (and has shown evidence of name, address, bank account, etc., marked on APP4), and when the buyer has made a deposit of 20% of the value of the work up to £125, or the amount above £100 in the case of work valued between £125 and £200.
